Can't help being a Puther when this song is so slamin'. Thanks, NYT Popcast for getting me to listen to the album despite having nothing but hate for Nine Track Mind. And for the covers of both albums. Seriously, Puth, get a better stylist. Taught this in my hip hop history class the other day. I had completely forgotten how killer that first verse is. Evidence: in class, I played the intro and stopped right before the verse starts, intending to analyze that section before diving into the verse. Stopping before it got really good caused quite a commotion--students shouted, groaned, and even a couple booed. Thankful it's the time of the year where I get to listen to this groovin' album again. This track is my #1 this year but if you've never listened to the whole thing, there are some real gems on this 1992 album: stevie, sounds of blackness (with a rap), and jammin version of the hallelujah chorus Love this throwback jam from 1992. Especially in comparison to some of the other multiracial duets from the 1980s (*cough*Ebony and Ivory) If I could reverse-engineer a song based on the contents of my dissertation, it would be this. i get the five to the six seven digits, call her up on my cellular. for an incredible story about the making of this video, check out stacy gueraseva's book Def Jam,Inc. pages 252-255 this album has kept me company for the entirety of writing my dissertation. highly recommend to anyone who needs writing music |
